Balmaceda & Serrano Glaciers

Highlights:

• Bernardo O´Higgins National Park:
  A place where wildlife is abundant among native forests that grow in the middle of a network of fjords, that is what the Bernardo O’Higgins National Park, home to the Kawésqar people, is like.
• The Southern Ice Fields:
  They are the main attractions and they invite you to visit the areas on boats and to behold their magnificence. This is an area that keeps the purity of nature in the south intact, giving the visitors an unforgettable experience. It is a large expanse of ice with 49 glaciers, among which we find the O’Higgins and Pio XI Glaciers in the Bernardo O’Higgins National Park, and the Tyndall, Grey, and Montt Glaciers, which you can observe in the Torres del Paine National Park.

Description:

The catamaran will begin sailing along Señoret channel, heading to the northwest to Balmaceda mount while enjoying our breakfast on board. Our first point of interest will be Frigorífico Bories which is a historical monument. It was founded in 1913 by Sociedad Explotadora  Tierra del Fuego.

It was the city’s largest slaughter of the area for over 60 years. Their post Victorian architecture style still remains these days.

Then, we will go through Señoret channel to head to Guanaco Island where wonderful toninas (a type of dolphin) can be seen.

Later, we will pass by Margot farm where you will see cormorants. We will continue our excursion until Punta de Lobos where we will find sea lions. After that, we will visit a waterfall as well as a cliff where we can see some condors. In each place, the catamaran will stop for some minutes so that we can enjoy the scenery.

The journey will continue to Balmaceda mount (2035 metres high) where we can see its homonym glacier, and then we will get off the catamaran at Toro port to begin our one-hour walk on the shore of Témpanos lagoon accompanied by our bilingual tour guide. We will go through a native forest surrounded by coigues, ñirres and ciruelillos until Serrano glacier.

After we have witnessed a unique, wild and unspoiled landscape, we will finish our sailing in Puerto Natales.
